Pet Spotlight: Maddie

Maddie has been by her mom Liza’s side since 2008. Maddie is a tough and spirited pup who has filled life with adventure, laughter, and love. As the owner of www.theworldiswaitingtravel.com, mom travels everywhere. Because of this, Maddie grew up exploring the world — from snowy fields to ocean shores — living fully and always proving she was, in Liza’s words, “a badass.”

Now in her senior years, life looks different. Vertigo, weak legs, and harder days have become part of Maddie’s story. Liza marks the good and the bad on a calendar, holding close to every gentle cuddle and every bright-eyed moment. One of the hardest parts has been finding the right people she can trust to help Maddie on the days she cannot be there herself. It is the hardest part of loving a dog, knowing the time will come when the bad days outweigh the good.

Maddie’s journey is a reminder that the final stage of a pet’s life is both tender and profound. It asks for patience, compassion, trusted support, and the courage to let love guide every decision. Though their bodies grow weaker, the love they give us never fades.

This month we celebrate Maddie, and all senior pets, for showing us how to cherish every day we’re given together.

The Holidays are on the Way!

Believe it or not, the holidays are right around the corner! Take a moment this week to check your travel dates and book your pet care early — spots fill up quickly once the season gets rolling.

Blog Highlight

Arthritis and Joint Pain – Stiffness, limping, or trouble getting up are common signs. Gentle exercise, weight control, and vet-recommended supplements can help keep your dog comfortable.

Dental Disease – Bad breath, drooling, and difficulty chewing often mean dental issues. Regular cleanings and at-home care protect both oral and overall health.

Vision and Hearing Loss – Older dogs may bump into things or seem unresponsive. Keeping furniture in the same place and using voice or touch cues can make life easier for them.

Meet Taylor!

We’re excited to welcome Taylor to the Backyard Pet Services grooming team! Taylor has been working hands-on with dogs since 2017 through daycare and bathing, and in 2020 he began grooming professionally. He brings not only years of experience but also a gentle touch and genuine love for every pet he works with.

When he’s not grooming, Taylor is passionate about tropical plants, he enjoys traveling to new places, and loves creating art through painting and sketching. His creativity and care shine through in everything he does, and we know your pets will be in wonderful hands with him.

Be sure to say hello to Taylor at your next appointment — he’s looking forward to meeting you and your furry family members!

Being There When You Can’t: End-of-Life Pet Care

The end of a pet’s life is one of the most heartbreaking times for any pet owner. From the moment we welcome them into our hearts, we know the day will come, but nothing truly prepares us for it.

At Backyard Pet Services, we are here to help during this tender stage of life — the goodbye stage. When you cannot be there, our team can provide companionship and comfort, offering gentle care and a loving presence so your pet is never alone in those final moments.

No beloved pet should make the journey across the rainbow bridge without kindness, warmth, and love by their side.

We’ve also shared some reflections on this tender chapter in our blog, which you can find here: When Our Pets Grow Old: Loving Them Through Their Final Chapter.

Product Spotlight: Mobility Ramp

This ramp has been a game-changer for dogs (and cats!). We recently welcomed a cat into the Backyard Pet family who has mobility issues, and this ramp has made it so much easier for our little kitty to get on and off the bed. It was simple to set up, easy to move if needed, and has given us wonderful peace of mind knowing she can reach her favorite spots safely.
